Great South Road/Old Taupiri Road Intersection Upgrade
The Great South Road/Old Taupiri Road Intersection Upgrade was delivered in conjunction with the Festival Way project, further enhancing infrastructure in northern Ngāruawāhia and laying the groundwork for future residential development. DVLP was proud to partner with the Waikato District Council to deliver this crucial infrastructure upgrade, which supports the region’s growth and development.
Spanning almost three years, the project involved extensive planning, consenting, design, and construction phases. Key elements of the upgrade included:
- Stormwater Improvements: Enhancing the local stormwater network to manage increased runoff, reduce flood risk, and support sustainable urban growth.
- Road Construction and Intersection Upgrades: The development of a new road network and upgrades to existing intersections, facilitating improved traffic flow and connectivity.
- New Roundabout: A modern roundabout at the Great South Road/Old Taupiri Road intersection, designed to improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and alleviate congestion, particularly in preparation for the area’s future residential expansion.
This intersection upgrade is a vital piece of the wider Festival Way project, designed to future-proof the region’s infrastructure and ensure it meets the demands of a growing population. Together, these projects contribute to the ongoing development and connectivity of Ngāruawāhia North, creating a safer, more efficient environment for residents and visitors alike.
Horotiu Road Intersection Upgrade
DVLP was engaged by Waikato District Council to deliver key upgrades to support the Northgate Industrial Park, including the closure of a railway crossing and the upgrade of a major intersection to connect to a new road.
Following a detailed review of the initial design, DVLP proposed and implemented design improvements that delivered substantial cost savings and a more efficient layout. The project team successfully navigated complex challenges, including adverse ground conditions and a higher-than-expected groundwater table.
The upgraded road and intersection are now operational, with the final milestone—the closure of the rail crossing—scheduled for completion in December 2024.
Festival Way
DVLP is proudly delivering the Festival Way Project in partnership with Waikato District Council and Kainga Ora, enhancing infrastructure to support growth in Ngāruawahia North. This project features crucial upgrades to the area’s infrastructure, facilitating future development.
Project Highlights:
- Stormwater Network: The installation of a deep stormwater network, reaching depths of up to 6 meters, with direct discharge into the Waikato River, to manage heavy rainfall and prevent flooding.
- New Arterial Road: Construction of a new arterial road to enhance connectivity in the area.
- Intersection Upgrades: Major upgrades to two existing intersections, improving traffic flow and access.
- Environmental Measures: Incorporating flood mitigation strategies and water-sensitive design to safeguard the local ecosystem, including nearby wetlands, streams, and the Waikato River.
The final piece of the project, the Great South Road/Old Taupiri Road intersection upgrade, will be completed by July 2025, further enhancing the region’s connectivity.
Pokeno Main St and Pokeno Road/Great South Road Intersection Upgrade Projects
As part of a long-term commitment to Pokeno community, these two projects were part of a public realm plan for the township. DVLP was responsible for managing the design and delivery of both projects simultaneously.
Before starting the detailed design phase there was significant community and Iwi consultation. This led to the revitalisation of the Town Center and the construction of a new roundabout at the northern end of the township. The construction was carried out by Waikato District Council’s alliance partner and overseen by DVLP.
